Lucia’s Apple Pie

Wholesome as…. as….. well, apple pie,, dammit!

Sauce for pie:

1-1/2 c sugar
3/4 c water
1/4 c Harlequin orange brandy
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
1/4 c butter

Cook these ingredients into a syrup. This boils over easily, so watch it closely.

I use purchased pie crusts in a glass deep dish 9” pan, since I never had a hand for making pastry. Fill the pan with pie apples, and heap them up at least a couple of inches above the lip of the pan. Pour ¾ of the syrup over the apples, then cover the pie with the second crust. Fold edges of bottom crust over edges of top crust and cut several deep slits in top crust. Pour remaining syrup over top crust for a golden glaze.

Place pie on a cookie sheet and bake in a 350 degree F oven for approximately 1 hour until crust is golden brown.
